Boycott This Song

on December 22nd, 2008 | Filed under Optoblog

Would you listen to a song that details a date rape? Me neither. Then why is there such a song, popular for many years, playing every Christmas?

Glenn Beck explains why we should be horrified by the song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

I would add that we should call every radio station that plays it and ask them to stop condoning date rape.

I’m serious. I knew there was a reason I hated that song, and Glenn Beck elucidated it for me.

You’re kidding, right? 😯 That is the biggest bunch of crap I’ve ever read. It’s a song about wanting your loved one to stay for the holidays. Anything else psycho Beck has read into it is just a figment of his self-righteous paranoid mind. I can’t believe you bought into that tripe.

wow. I hope that was a joke. How ridiculous!

[I know! The whole song is a joke AND “ridiculous.” I’m glad you agree.]

I know, I know. I’ve heard how you can write circles around everyone.

I’m sure you are no friend of any conservative author/broadcaster/entertainer since you voted for Obama, but let’s stick to the issues without name calling. While we’re talking about issues, she’s definitely not his “loved one” or he would have respected her inclination to leave and end the date. He is clearly not well known to her family because her parents are at home pacing.

I like how you say “stay for the holidays.” Even if you assume that he’s not slipping GHB into her drink, the guy in the song is clearly after a sexual encounter. Anyone who tells herself otherwise is being naive. Just because many people think it’s fine for unmarried people to fornicate/adulterate doesn’t mean the rest of us shouldn’t be disgusted and boycott the song.

As I said before, I’ve always hated that song, so I didn’t buy into anything. Beck has provided another bullet point for my Powerpoint slide show on why I hate that song.

I won’t listen to rap music condoning murdering peace officers, and I won’t listen to “Christmas songs” condoning date rape.

Okay, in truth I wouldn’t listen to rap music even if the lyrics were taken from a hymnal.
